Ryker had gotten them another hotel room. It was fancier than the last, and he’d used the name Warren Smart again. Dennis began to wonder if Ryker was truly his name or just another alias.

The room was a suite. It had two rooms, a bedroom and the main room, which looked more like a living room.

Dennis stepped into the bedroom and immediately noticed the single king-sized bed. This place almost looked better than his apartment. It had all the necessities a bachelor would need. He was willing to bet it cost a pretty penny to stay in this room for a single night, and he had no idea how many nights “Warren Smart” had booked it.

Was Ryker trying to impress him? Although Dennis wouldn’t admit it, he was impressed. He was also nervous as hell. If a guy shelled out this kind of cash for a room, he’d expect something in return.

Dennis turned to see Ryker standing in the doorway, one arm stretched and resting against the doorframe. In this room, wearing those nice-fitting jeans, the man looked good enough to eat. Dennis had to resist the urge to fall into his arms. The tiger leaned there casually, as if he hadn’t a care in the world. He envied Ryker’s ability to remain calm under pressure. Dennis felt as if he’d fall apart at any second.

“We’re on the twelfth floor. The only way someone is getting in is through the door.”

That didn’t help settle his nerves. The last guy to show up had used the door. “Just don’t let anyone in and we should be fine.”

Though Dennis still couldn’t relax. There was something about having a hit man after you that kept you on edge. That, and the fact that, once again, the hotel room contained a single bed. He might not have been to a hotel before, but he was pretty sure there were rooms with two beds. He wasn’t even going to ask. Ryker would tell him it was all they had, though Dennis had a feeling that wasn’t true.

“Why don’t you shower while I order us something to eat?”

The guy had one hell of an appetite. It seemed nothing stood in the way of him and his food. All Dennis could do was shake his head. When they’d gone to the bar to inquire about Ollie, Ryker had ordered a burger. Maybe he used food to calm his nerves. Some people smoked. Others drank. Ryker apparently ate his way through his problems.

“And what am I going to change into?” Dennis asked. He had nothing but the clothes on his back. Thanks to the prick waiting at his apartment, he hadn’t had time to pack. He needed to shower and change into some clean clothes. The ones he wore were wrinkled, and there was a ketchup stain on his shirt from his fries. He also wished he had a toothbrush. His mouth felt gunky.

“There should be a fresh robe hanging in the bathroom.” A spark lit up Ryker’s eyes.
